Caring for and Alongside Thais
For over 80 years, Union Drug Labs. Ltd. has stood by the Thai people. Starting with the production of various herbal medicines and evolving into modern pharmaceuticals that meet standard regulations, the company has continuously learned, adapted, and developed its organization to become widely known and accepted, ready to advance to a national level.
On August 19, 1964, Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra Boromarajajonani graciously officiated the opening of Union Drug Labs. Ltd.
In response to the medicine shortage in Thailand at that time, Mr. Supa-at and Ms. Jarunsri Chavanothai established Samakkhi Bhesaj Pharmacy. They began producing and selling Gentian Compound Tincture, Cardamom Compound Tincture, and also made Peppermint Spirit and Chloroform Spirit. These were distributed nationwide to medical personnel, hospitals, and the general public at affordable prices.
Just one year after its initial operations, Mr. Supa-at and Ms. Jarunsri Chawanothai increased the registered capital and renamed it Union Drug Labs. Ltd. Their goal was to produce high-quality medicines at affordable prices for all Thai people nationwide. In addition, the company expanded its production and distribution to include many new pharmaceutical products, including Zema Lotion, for treating fungal skin diseases like ringworm and tinea. Zema Lotion was very well-received by users shortly after being sold via land and river transport to various provinces.
After another 20 years, Union Drug Labs. Ltd. officially opened its new premises on August 19, 1964. Relocating to Sukhumvit Road, the company expanded its production capacity into a complete pharmaceutical manufacturing plant. With a team of 130 pharmacists and employees, they produced over 120 types of medicine using modern and international standard manufacturing processes. Furthermore, the company was the first in Thailand to produce sugar-coated tablets. All pharmaceutical products from the company received inspection and approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
At present
Currently, Union Drug Labs. Ltd. is managed by Mr. Pattanapong Chavanothai, son of Mr. Supa-at Chavanothai. Along with a team of pharmacists, scientists, and over 200 employees, they produce medicines under more than 100 registered formulas approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). These include both human and veterinary medicines, categorized into four types: liquids, creams, tablets, and injectables.
